Teaching Ability - General Introduction

In many ways this section can be considered as one of the most important parts of the examination.

The examiner can ask questions related to teaching ability throughout all other sections of the examination and/or focus on this subject as the final part of the exam.

Examination Tips:

  • Common sense answers are required and the response to each question can vary greatly between candidates. This is because as far as teaching methods are concerned, what works for one teacher might not work for another and vice versa.
  • There are no trick questions to be aware of, the examiner is interested in the candidate’s teaching methods for all ages and abilities of their pupils.
  • The safety aspects of Freestyle Dance which are covered on pages 66 & 67 of Freestyle Dance with extra information on pages 61 to 69 of Advanced Freestyle may also be asked as a teaching question, bearing in mind that this is a compulsory question and could therefore be covered in a different part of the examination.
  • Throughout the section on teaching ability it is particularly important to display good voice projection and a confident manner, as the examiner will want to see that the candidate has an effective approach towards their pupils.
